Engine One

The High Prairie Fire Department is very proud of many things - Engine 1 is no exception!  Originally built for the HPFD in 1974 by a small Canadian company based out of Red Deer, Alberta, it was the very first apparatus rolled off the Superior factory production line - ever!

Although she is no longer a front-line response unit, this old girl is still in great shape and has proven her worth time, and time again in many heated situations.

Plans to replace this long-standing member of the HPFD family are underway for 2013, tentatively.

Engine Two

Engine 2 is the HPFD's primary engine that responds to emergency fire calls within the corporate limits of the Town of High Prairie. Built by Superior, this fire suppression unit will carry 4 firefighters in the closed crew / operators compartment in addition to the apparatus operator/driver and officer in the cockpit area of the vehicle.  This unit is able to carry a payload of just 3100 liters of water and has stellar foam applications.  It also carries a variety of general firefighting tools including two generators.  Each jump-seat in the crew compartment contains one B.A. unit, which the firefighter  can easily slip into and make ready while enroute to an emergency call.

Engine Three

The HPFD fulfils a commitment to the M.D. of Big Lakes by way of providing services in Fire Suppression in addition to Rescue services to those in need of vehicle extrication.  When called to an emergency involving fire within the M.D. of Big Lakes, Engine 3 rolls.  Built by Fort Gary, this fire suppression unit will carry 4 firefighters in the closed crew / operators compartment in addition to the apparatus operator/driver and officer in the cockpit area of the vehicle.  This unit is able to carry a payload of just 3100 liters of water and has excellent foam applications.  It also carries a variety of general firefighting tools including two generators.

Engine Four - Rapid Attack

Built on a Ford F-550 chassis with 4-wheel drive by the High Prairie Fire-Rescue Society, the Rapid Attack Unit responds to all emergency calls from MVC's to Wildland / grass fire incidents to structural fires to gas leaks.  As the engine is independent of the drive system, it allows for a pump-and-roll feature, which is very useful on a grass fire.  "Rapid", as it's affectionately called by HPFD members boasts a 900L water tank as well as an independent tank for foam applications.  This unit is able to carry a maximum of two firefighters.  The rapid is also the initial response vehicle that will carry the Incident Commander to any call.

Rescue One

Built by Rocky Mountain Phoenix on a Ford F-550 chassis, Rescue 1 is the newest proud addition to the HPFD fleet.  With a payload of just under 18,000 lbs, this unit is able to carry far more life saving equipment than it's predecessor.  Able to carry five firefighters to an MVC, this unit is equipped with a power plant generator as well as two hydraulic pumps so as to operate the Jaws of Life - tools used on many incidents where the extrication of trapped occupants of vehicles was necessary.  Rescue 1 responds to all incidents where rescue efforts are required.  It will also roll on incidents where additional personnel are required to attend any given incident. Six SCBA packs are carried on this unit with an additional ten breathing air bottles in the event tank-changes are necessary for rescuers.
